Arthur Cutten started the pay-as-you-play golf course in 1928 on the Macdonald Farm property adjacent to the University of Guelph. The course was designed by Charles "Chick" Evans and Stanley Thompson. After Mr. Cutten's death, Stanley Thompson purchased the club in 1939 which was then called Cutten Fields, but known as the Cutten Club. He also began selling annual memberships.
